Exhibit No. 12

Lekythos with Scene of Divine Departure

In Cases 14 through 18, you’ll find vases and marble votive offerings that reflect religious practices in the region. Among them, in Case 15, is a white-ground lekythos depicting a powerful scene: the goddess Athena departing from Olympus, accompanied by Apollo and Artemis. This vase was made in an Attic workshop and dates to the mid-5th century BC. It has been carefully reassembled and restored.

Many gods and heroes were worshipped in this area. Archaeological finds confirm devotion to deities such as Zeus Hypsistos, Artemis, Apollo, Dionysus, Athena, and Hermes, as well as to heroes like Heracles. Temples dedicated to these gods have been found across the Kozani region, painting a rich picture of ancient religious life.
